Did you know that some sugar companies, like those in the U.S, use bone char derived from dried, purified cattle bones to filter and bleach their sugar.. Now, while the sugar does not actually contain animal products, it does come in contact with it…. so you decide vegan or not?
If your reaction was something like, “yuck, that’s still gross!” we’ve put together a few vegan options to sweeten up your life:
Organic sugar – to maintain its organic integrity this sugar is minimally processed or not refined at all. Look for certified USDA sugar, which cannot be filtered through bone char.
If you’re in Canada Redpath Sugar does NOT use bone char,
AND sugar made in Australia is all bone char free!
